Senior Co-Housing
耆·邑

Function: Co-living Community
Project Type: Renovation
Location: Zhongshan Road, West Central D
istrict, Tainan City, Taiwan
Design : 2020

This project transforms a decaying site in Tainan’s historic market district into a co-housing community for the elderly.

Using tools of path analysis and visual mapping, the design enables older residents—of varying health conditions—to return to familiar ground and age together. Their presence, in turn, brings renewed life to the old town.

The plan preserves the logic of the original site: small, detached units arranged like a village.

Single- and double-occupancy rooms offer flexibility for different needs, while the winding paths take inspiration from Chinese gardens—creating a quiet, enclosed street atmosphere.

A new public hall, placed at the site’s edge, serves as a shared activity space. A covered corridor connects it to the surrounding neighborhood, inviting in visitors and reactivating the community.

While circulation paths are kept separate between private and public zones, visual connections remain—balancing privacy and engagement through layout and sightlines.
