Chinese is image. Image is a model of the world.
As a kind of hieroglyphic, many Chinese characters depict scenes related to human behavior.
I reconstructed the form of the character ‘人’ (human), and used AR technology to let this figure interact with the environment—helping viewers understand the original meaning embedded in the Chinese character.
This character means “running.” The ancient form depicts a person running across a grassy field.
I reinterpreted the 3D figures as seal carvings—traditionally used for authorship and rootedness. This collection of research and imagery was compiled into an archive that frames Chinese characters through a contemporary lens.
The visual language blends past and present: textured paper and vertical type evoke historical context, while riso printing and vivid colours inject a sense of now. The result is a stitched journey through 3,000 years of written form.
