In this project, I began by observing how people move, sit, wait and circulate—mapping their behaviour within the café space at the British Museum.

A place is a set of rules that governs people’s behaviour.

People negotiate their own relationship with the boundaries of such rules.

Design begins with observation. By translating behavioural patterns into visual rules, I developed a spatial prototype. Inspired by Conway’s Game of Life, this grid-based system reflects how people shape space by avoiding proximity.

Every active cell interacts with its 15 neighbouts.

Each active cell is in one of 7 possible states.
